A leading figure in contemporary Spanish music, Raül Refree (Raül Fernández Miró) has been developing a unique body of work for over twenty years, at the intersection of popular music, flamenco, experimental music, electronic music, and contemporary composition.
A musician, composer, producer, and true explorer of sound, the Barcelona-based artist has made a name for himself through his ability to reinvent traditions without ever losing sight of their essence. His work focuses on sound texture, space, the voice, and emotion, in a constant search for new musical forms.
Throughout his career, Refree has developed notable collaborations with some of the most distinctive artists on the international scene: Rosalía, for whom he produced and played guitar on *Los Ángeles* (2017); Sílvia Pérez Cruz, with whom he created *Granada*, among other works; as well as Rocío Márquez, Niño de Elche, Rodrigo Cuevas, Lina, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Kiko Veneno, and Guitarricadelafuente.
Through these collaborations, Raül Refree builds bridges between tradition and the avant-garde: he juxtaposes flamenco with experimentation, reimagines fado with Lina, explores Iberian and Mediterranean traditions, and simultaneously develops his own creative work. His solo albums, including *La Otra Mitad* and *El Espacio Entre*, reveal a more intimate world where acoustic and electric guitars, piano, electronic sounds, and silence come together to create deeply evocative music.
His work also extends to film and television, for which he has composed numerous original soundtracks, notably for projects by Isaki Lacuesta, the series *La Mesías*, and the film *La Bola Negra* by Los Javis, which premiered at Cannes in 2026. This career has earned him several awards, including the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona and Gaudí Awards.
Both on stage and in the studio, Raül Refree views music as a living landscape: a space where the memory of traditions can engage freely with the most contemporary forms.
His music—boundless, radical, and sensitive—transforms popular heritage into the raw material of contemporary creation.
