Ana Pérez put on her first flamenco shoes at the age of 3. The daughter of contemporary choreographer Patrick Servius and Maria Pérez, a flamenco dancer and director of the Solea centre, Ana grew up under the influence of these two role models. She studied with some of the greatest flamenco maestros, including Pilar Ortega, Adela Campallo and Andrés Marin, in Seville, the birthplace of this traditional art form, where she lived for eight years. She soon joined Spain’s most prestigious tablaos and Luis de la Carrasca’s flamenco vivo company, with whom she travelled the world. In 2017, Ana returned to her home town of Marseille and set up her own company. She then began a research project with the creation of the solo ‘Répercussions’, which led her to explore a more contemporary approach to her dance. Today Ana is continuing to experiment, reflecting on her movements, rhythms and sounds through the prism of flamenco.

Concerto en 37 ½ unfolds a triptych structure in which the imaginations of sonatas, lieds and rondos are drawn upon. From her encounter with the Japanese art of Butoh, Ana Perez returns stronger than ever, enriched by the sensations she experiences as she listens to her body, the sounds it produces and how it interacts with those outside. The dancer delivers a hybrid piece, punctuated by flamenco zapateados, in which she incorporates elements of 70s minimal music to create a new form of sonic expression. A musician with her feet, she places her dance in dialogue with two musicians, to amplify the fusion between gesture and sound or, through the shift, to thicken interiority. The result is an engagement of the whole body in a movement far removed from superficial aestheticism, connected to sounds, to the body, to others.
