Quitar o aire
The Caamaño & Ameixeiras duo, made up of Sabela Caamaño (chromatic accordion) and Antía Ameixeiras (violin and voice), draw their inspiration from tradition to create their own unique language, drawing on the intertwined roots of Galician, Basque, Balkan and Celtic musical traditions.
The two musicians have assimilated Galician traditions from an early age, have accumulated impressive academic achievements and have taken part in a wide range of collaborations with artists such as Carlos Núñez, Kepa Junkera and the legendary Galician ensemble Luar na Lubre. Together, they manifest a vibrant musical universe and offer personal and intimate compositions and arrangements where the old ways are also the new.
Since its birth in 2018, this duo has enjoyed an intense trajectory, both nationally and internationally, virtuosically maintaining the essence of popular music while incorporating contemporary resources.
Following the success of their debut album, Aire! (Segell Microscopi, 2021) (Martín Códax da Música 2021 award in the folk category, 1st Folkez Blai 2021 award (Ermua, Basque Country), Prix Opinión da Música de Raíz ao disco do ano 2021), Caamaño & Ameixeiras released their second album, Quitar o aire (Raso Estudio, 2023), in October 2023, produced by renowned Burgos musician Diego Galaz and featuring such outstanding collaborations as Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Fetén Fetén.
The album is inspired by Galician folk rites. A fascinating universe where reality, magic and religion converge to provide answers, heal and celebrate life. A world that places the tribe at the centre, the community understood as a network of helpers to save one another.
On this album, the duo undress emotionally and musically to connect with their roots and immerse themselves in this imaginary world, which is also theirs, to visit and recreate some of the most beautiful and evocative places. From the intimacy and sadness of mourning to the exhilaration and celebration of recovery from illness. From the excited illusion of love filters to the powerful darkness of exorcisms.
After their debut album, Aire! (2021), Caamaño&Ameixeiras now call on purifying rites, precise words and ancestral wisdom. To chaos and renewal.
