The two distinctive voices of Caroline Dufau and Lila Fraysse blend into a hypnotic polyphony driven by the beat of stringed tambourines, feet, and hands. In this powerful face-off, the two musicians showcase their complementary vocal personalities, woven together by 10 years of artistic collaboration.
Cocanha embraces minimalism and aligns with the aesthetic of amplified music, engaging bodies in dance. The two musicians draw from the traditional Occitan repertoire, breathe new life into archival material, and reposition it within the oral tradition. Some lyrics are rewritten, others invented, springing from a shared, open-air imagination. The female characters in the songs reclaim their power of desire and assert it.
The highly acclaimed release of their latest album, “Puput” (Pagans 2020), produced by Raúl Refree, has established the group as part of this exciting generation emerging from traditional music, much like Rodrigo Cuevas. Still accompanied by Raúl Refree, Cocanha is preparing to release its new album in 2026.
