Driven by both a deep love of folk music and a desire to restore its vitality, Rodrigo Cuevas has launched an iconoclastic effort to modernize Asturian traditions. He describes himself as a folk agitator. His music draws inspiration from the traditional rhythms and songs of northern Spain, which he reimagines by modernizing them with extensive use of electronic instrumentation and bold compositional choices. The originality of his approach is also reflected in the persona he has created for himself: half drag queen, half hidalgo sorcerer—an unexpected queer persona in the conservative world of traditional music and in the rural Spain where he chose to live after completing his studies in Barcelona. While respecting the ancient roots of his repertoire—based on traditional Asturian dances like the xiringüelu or Galician dances like the muñeira—he transforms them into evolving creations that are more futuristic than contemporary.

His brilliant debut album, *Manuel de Cortejo*, produced by Raül Refree, led to a successful tour of over 100 concerts.

In January 2023, Rodrigo Cuevas recorded his second album, *Manual de la Romeria*, at La Casa del Sombrero, the studios of renowned Puerto Rican producer Eduardo Cabra (formerly of Calle 13). This collaboration between two brilliant and creative individuals gave birth to a dazzling, beautiful, warm, danceable, and honest work of art.
Once the album was recorded, Rodrigo set to work creating his new show, which—in addition to drawing on the songs that make up the album—draws on history and humor, criticism and irony, intelligent social commentary and the sensuality that characterizes him, rigor and beauty, the natural use of Asturian and Spanish as the languages of the show, and a staging that breaks with previous imagery.

In March 2026, *Manual de Belleza*, produced once again by Eduardo Cabra, will be released, and *Belleza*, Rodrigo Cuevas’s new stage production, invites us to discover this space where dreams and beauty intertwine with the earthly world.
